What is Aura?
Aura is a voice-first dating app where connections start with conversation, not photos. Instead of swiping on images, you listen to 30-second Voice Signatures from potential matches and connect based on personality, humor, and conversational chemistry.
How does voice matching work?
During onboarding, you record a 30-second Voice Signature — an audio introduction that serves as your first impression. Other users hear your voice intro and decide whether to connect based on your personality and how you sound, rather than how you look. Photos are not shown until a mutual connection is established.
What is a Pod Date?
A Pod Date is a timed live audio conversation with a match. Think of it like a phone date built into the app. You and your match talk in real time with conversation prompts to keep things flowing. It's your first real interaction — intimate, unscripted, and pressure-free since there's no video.
How do I create an account?
Download Aura from the App Store, open the app, and follow the onboarding steps. You'll verify your phone number, answer personality questions, record your Voice Signature, and set your preferences. The whole process takes about 5 minutes.
How do I report a user?
If you encounter inappropriate behavior, you can report a user from multiple places in the app: tap the flag icon on their match profile, or open the menu in a chat conversation and select "Report User." You'll be asked to select a reason (inappropriate content, harassment, fake profile, spam, or other) and can add additional details. Our safety team reviews all reports within 24 hours and takes action as needed.
How do I block someone?
To block a user, tap the flag icon on their profile or open the menu in a chat and select "Block User." Once blocked, they will immediately be unable to see your profile, send you messages, or contact you in any way. You can also block a user directly after submitting a report. Blocking is immediate and the blocked user is not notified.
What happens when I report someone?
When you submit a report, it is sent to our moderation team for review. We investigate all reports and take appropriate action, which may include warning the user, restricting their account, or permanently banning them from Aura. Your report is confidential — the reported user will not know who reported them. After reporting, you'll also be given the option to block the user.
How does Aura keep me safe?
Safety is a top priority at Aura. We provide multiple tools to protect our community: report and block functionality accessible from any profile or conversation, a dedicated moderation team that reviews reports within 24 hours, and proactive content monitoring. All voice recordings are reviewed for policy compliance, and users who violate our community guidelines are removed from the platform.
Why does Aura need microphone access?
Aura uses your microphone for three core features: recording your Voice Signature (your audio introduction that other users hear), sending voice messages to your matches, and having live voice conversations during Pod Dates. Without microphone access, these features cannot function. You can grant permission when prompted during onboarding.
Why does Aura need location access?
Aura uses your location to find matches near you and show approximate distances on profiles. We only access your location while you're using the app, and we never share your exact location with other users — only an approximate distance (e.g., "3 miles away") is displayed.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Aura Premium subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. Go to Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, find Aura, and tap Cancel Subscription. Your premium features will remain active until the end of the current billing period.
How do I delete my account?
You can delete your account from within the app by going to Profile, then Settings, then scrolling down to "Delete Account." You can also request account deletion by emailing us at support@auradating.us. All your data — including your voice recordings, messages, matches, and personal information — will be permanently removed within 30 days.
I'm having a technical issue. What should I do?
Try closing and reopening the app first. If the issue persists, make sure you have the latest version installed from the App Store. If it still doesn't work, email us at support@auradating.us with a description of the problem, your device model, and iOS version. We typically respond within 24 hours.
Is Aura available on Android?
Aura is currently available on iOS only. We're working on an Android version and plan to launch it soon. Join our waitlist on the homepage to be notified when Android is available.
What cities is Aura available in?
Aura is launching first in Seattle, WA. We plan to expand to more cities based on demand. If you're outside Seattle, you can still join the waitlist and we'll notify you when we launch in your area.
